We All Rise Together On May Day

On May Day, We Are Rising Together

LÍV and UNI Global Union stands in solidarity with workers worldwide on International Workers’ Day, May 1st, recognizing the essential nature of their work during the pandemic and their determination to fight for fair treatment, higher wages, safer jobs, and a decent retirement.

The labor movement aims to shift the balance of power from the few to the many and expand collective bargaining to all workers. Across the world, workers are fighting back against takeaways and attacks on their conditions, including strikers in Germany, journalists in Turkey, and cleaners in New Zealand.

Unions have been bargaining for higher wages to combat the cost-of-living crisis, with successes including pay increases for commerce workers in Finland and a stronger recognition of workers' rights in Montenegro. Tech workers globally are organizing and unionizing against inadequate working conditions and widespread layoffs, with workers at Google forming the first-ever European Works Council and Amazon workers continuing their struggle for justice on the job. As unions worldwide take to the streets and organize year-round, they know that when they fight, they win.
