LÍV Board Critical Of Loftbrú Changes

The Executive Board of LÍV Critical of Loftbrú Changes

The Executive Board of LÍV, the Commercial Federation of Iceland, strongly criticises the Government’s proposed changes to the Loftbrú domestic air travel subsidy scheme.

Transport and connectivity are of vital importance to LÍV members, and Loftbrú plays a significant role in promoting equality of opportunity for people throughout Iceland and improving access to essential services concentrated in the capital for those living outside the capital area.

There are compelling arguments that it would have been preferable to clarify and strengthen the rules governing the use of these subsidies and increase the funding allocated to the scheme. The stated objective of improving predictability has clearly not been considered from the perspective of those who rely on the service.

The Executive Board of LÍV calls on the Government to reconsider its proposals, as the changes would have a significant negative impact on people living far from essential services concentrated in the capital.
